Hundreds of Tema Newtown residents in the Greater Accra region have trooped to the beach to take spiritual sea bath upon instructions of a Chief Priest Tuesday.
The residents are to take the spiritual bath in sea to reverse a supposed curse placed on them, which has resulted in the deaths of nine persons in two days.
The chief of the area Nii Osongaa Adjei Kraku II confirmed the incident and told Adom FM that some persons at Tema Newtown have gone to steal expensive cloths belonging to the chief priest, hence, the curse.
Nii Adjei Kraku II, stated that: “After the items were stolen, he [chief priest] asked his god to deal with the person. The person has died and after he was buried, nine other persons have also died at my area from yesterday to today [Monday to Tuesday].”
He said, the incident became terrifying after the series of deaths, “though death is inevitable.”
Some residents also indicated that they have been told that the cause of deaths are as a result of the items stolen from the chief priest. They are now living in a state of fear and panic as no one knows who will die next, hence, the need to follow the directive to bath with the sea water to prevent further deaths.
As early as 5am Wednesday, several of the residents had trooped to the beach to take their baths, according to reports.
Some residents have also gone to collect the sea water in gallons and buckets for persons who cannot go to the beach, to bath in their homes.
There was heavy vehicular traffic at the area, early Wednesday morning, due to the rush to go to the beach to bath.
