Presiding member for Suame Municipal Assembly (SMA), Mr Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, has asked former presiding member of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Nana Kofi Senya, to accord due respect to Members of Parliament and desist from fabricating falsehood against them.
According to Mr Boakye, allegations levelled against MPs, including Honourable Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, MP for Suame by the former KMA PM, on misappropriation of Common fund and HIPC funds are unfounded, adding ‘HIPC funds are not even in existence.’
Mr Boakye, was reacting to allegations being peddled by Nana Kofi Senya, New Suame Assembly Member, on misappropriations of various funds allocated to the assemblies especially KMA.
He attributed the desperations of Nana Senya, to his inability to grab the positions of Suame Municipal Chief Executive and Convener of Works Committee of the assembly.
“If you were not given the position of Suame MCE and lost works Committee’s election, it doesn’t pave way for you to ridicule MPs by issuing baseless allegations out of bitterness,” Mr Boakye said.
He has thus, challenged Nana Senya to quote specific provisions under the procurement Act and the financial management Act which have been breached by MPs including Mr Kyei Mensah-Bonsu.
Mr Ofosu Boakye, who is the Special Assistant for Suame MP and Majority Leader, described it as an ignorance and deliberate ploy to mislead Ghanaians adding, MPs have never been members of the Assemblies tender committee.
“Nana Senya knows very well the claim that Hon. Osei Kyei -Mensah -Bonsu Awarded a contract of Ghc 40,000 is a complete falsehood saying MPs do not award contracts”. Hon Ofosu Boakye said.
He disclosed that Suame MP, issued a letter, requesting KMA to release GhC25,000.00 from the MPs common fund to Nana Senya to renovate the Kotoko toilet facility. According to him, it passed through due processes and said the contract was awarded to a contractor by Nana Senya himself.
