[PHOTOS]: ‘Oldest woman in Ghana’ celebrates birthday

Madam Mary Esmay Wood, 95 years-old.

Members of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church, Kaneshie North Circuit, could not hide their astonishment when it was announced that a 95 year-old woman was in the church for a thanksgiving service.

Some church members wondered if ‘she is the oldest woman in Ghana.’

Mary Wood was accompanied by some family members for the service, and could not hide her joy when the ‘happy birthday song’ was sang for her and a parcel given to her as a birthday gift.

She was born on July 23, 1923, in Cape Coast in the Central region. Madam Mary Wood attended Wesley Girls Senior High School.

She became a business woman after school and later became sand and stone contractor.

She has three children; two females and a male.
