Chairperson for the Local Organising Committee [LOC], Ms Freda Akosua Prempeh, says Ghanaians will have a change of mind about the Black Queens from tomorrow onward.
According to her, the team is being provided everything necessary to make them comfortable and excel in the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations [AWCON].
“As the LOC we’re supposed to ensure that the team is provided everything they need. And, every preparation in that direction is underway. I believe from tomorrow, people will have a change of mind about the team [Black Queens],” Ms Prempeh said on UTV today.
The Black Queens will have a friendly encounter with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana tomorrow, Sunday, November 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium, which according to the LOC chairperson, ‘it is free of charge.’
She indicated that the gate will be opened by 1pm and “we have invited Grace Ashy to come entertain us, while all the supporters group have been invited.”
Ms Prempeh thus appealed to all to come support the Black Queens tomorrow to triumph over the South African side.
She, however, stated that AWCON matches are not free. There will be charges for the various seats in AWCON opening match between Ghana and Algeria and subsequent matches. “Popular stand ¢5.00; VIP ¢10.00; and VVIP ¢ 20.00,” she said.
On his part, the coach of the Black Queens, Bashiru Hayford said, currently, the team has got some professional players, hence, stronger than ever.
He said the team’s lost to Zambia in a friendly couple of weeks ago was as a result of few challenges in ‘organisation.’
According to Coach Hayford, he was not worried about the defeat, “what was important to me was building a strong team for the tournament. Now, the team can defeat every East African country: Kenya and Zambia. We’re well prepared now.”
