Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central region says the Operation Vanguard team that was tasked to deal with galamsey are “so corrupt.”
According to Mr Kennedy Agyapong, he does not know who to trust anymore with the issue of fighting galamsey due to the fact that the Operation Vanguard team was found to be corrupt.
Hinting on the ban on small scale mining, on Joy Fm today, he said: “I know the specific day [it will be lifted] but I don’t want to take it away from the President. I want the President or Dr Frimpong Boateng to come out and tell Ghanaians.”
According to Mr Agyapong, government does not want to discourage the small scale miners financially when the ban is lifted. “That is why we are being flexible” with the registration and licensing.
Mr Agyapong urged those who will be monitoring the small scale miners to be sincere to the government, themselves and the nation “and not go and amass wealth.”
He indicated that yesterday a soldier went to him to plead with him help him [the soldier] go and join a particular team which is being formed “so that he [soldier] can also make money.
“I said wow. You’ve failed because I’m not going to do it,” the outspoken MP said.
