The second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Richard Asante, has called for the arrest of the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress [NDC], Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
He said, Asiedu Nketiah should be arrested for inciting the populace to destabilise the country as occurred in Cote d’Ivoire.
According to Mr. Asante, the declaration by the General Secretary to lead a civil war to turn the country into a bloody environment is treasonable. It should therefore be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Mr. Asante’s call comes couple of days after Mr. Nketiah cautioned that the bloody Côte d’Ivoire experience-that saw the country experience 10 years of civil war, may be encountered in Ghana.
This Mr. Nketiah warned will occur should the National Identification Authority (NIA), fail to include the Voters ID card as a form of identification for the Ghana card registration.
Speaking to The Probe, Mr Asante, described the declaration by Mr. Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, as unfortunate adding that as a mature politician, he should have known better.
”Threats from the opposition NDC can never intimidate the government to succumb to the demand for the inclusion of voters ID Card as a form of identification to register for the Ghana card,” he indicated.
According to Mr. Asante, Ghanaians need a credible national identification card, hence, cannot rely on the voters ID Card which is not reliable form of identification as a citizen.
”Registration for the Ghana card is a continuous exercise and any Ghanaian who does not have birth certificate can even register at the Birth and Death Registry to get such document within few weeks and be able to register for the Ghana card,” he explained.
He further stated that any person who claims to be a Ghanaian obviously has at least two relatives who can confirm their nationality for them to be registered and issued with the Ghana card.
“So Asiedu Nketia believes there are people here in Ghana who have the voters ID with no family members in Ghana? Such persons to me, if true, are foreigners therefore Asiedu Nketia wants foreigners to have the Ghana card? Does he think he is more sensible than his MPs?” Mr. Asante asked.
Mr. Asante therefore advised members of NDC to take legitimate means to press home their demand, else they will witness the wrath of the members of the ruling party.
