The New Patriotic Party’s chairmanship race aspirant, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has lashed out at his contender, Freddy Blay, for ‘monetizing’ the party’s upcoming national delegates elections.
Speaking on 3FM’s morning show, Sunrise, with host Winston Amoah, today, July 5, Dr. Amoako Baah said that he had not been able to tour all the 275 constituencies because of financial constraints.
“I have gone to some constituencies but not all of them. It takes money. It takes money [and] it takes time. We have monetized this election to the extent that if you don’t have money you can’t run. It should never be like that. It means that democracy is being destroyed. It means the vote is being sold to the highest bidder. This is what some people call monetocracy,” he said.
Worried Dr. Amoako Baah criticised Mr. Blay’s purchase of buses, for the NPP’s constituency offices across the country, saying that the move will shift the attention of the party.
“Has the party turned into Metro Mass Transit Limited? Is that how political parties operate? He is diverting our attention from our core business. Our core business is to win elections not to make money,” he fumed.
He says, he is confident of winning the elections to be elected chairman of the NPP, indicating that Mr. Blay cannot ride on the back of securing victory for the NPP in the 2016 elections.
“I said it myself that he has done well. He was the one in charge when we won [the 2016 elections] but he is not the only one who did it. Who worked harder than the delegates on the ground? [Talk about the] Delta Force! He worked harder than them?” he asked.
The national delegates conference of the NPP is billed to take place in Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, this Saturday, July 7, 2018.
