The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Akwasi Asante has called on the former President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate a sign of competence before contesting to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2020.
Ghanaians, he said, still remember the incompetent administration of the former president, therefore he [Mahama] ought to redeem his image before leading the party.
Speaking to the media, Mr Asante, recounted the numerous corruptible practices witnessed under the Mahama led administration.
“Under NDC government, the Supreme Court described the Mahama administration as create, loot and share, adding that corruption reached epidemic proportions,’ he said.
According to the Vice Chairman, majority of the youth especially the graduates became jobless, which led to the formation of association constituting jobless graduates.
Mr Asante said that the Mahama administration in the mid of economic hardship, increased electricity bill by 60 percent, Value Added Tax (VAT) by 20 percent and petrol price by 50 percent, which were unbearable.
He said despite the increase in electricity tariff, Ghanaians continuously embattled with dumsor for three years, which collapsed some business, adding a monthly tariff was higher than rent.
Mr Asante said Ghanaians will vote based on the fulfilment of promises made by the NPP during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
According to him, Ghanaians are not ready for NDC to win power with an intent to scrap the Free Senior High School policy, Nation Builders Corp (NABCO), as well as allowances for nurses and teacher trainees.
Mr Asante therefore commended government for establishing the office of the Special Prosecutor and hoped corruptible officials will be made to face the full rigours of the law.
