The ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has sued the Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong 25 million-cedi damages for defaming him [Anas].
Anas is suing Kennedy at the Accra High Court for claiming he is corrupt and evil.
For couple of weeks now the MP has been accusing Anas asserting he is corrupt and should be hanged for what he claimed to be the journalist’s evil activities in his work.
Kennedy Agyapong launched a scattering attack on Anas, and threatened to similarly expose him, prior to the premiering of the Journalist’s latest exposé that showed deep-seated corruption in African football,.
“We have to hang Anas for the evil things that he has done to Ghanaians in the course of his investigations, which he has used to amass wealth in Ghana,” Kennedy Agyapong said on Adom FM.
“If I tell you someone is corrupt, I have to make sure I am genuine before I point my finger at someone,” he added.
Subsequently, the MP threatened to show evidence of Anas’ alleged corrupt acts if he dared premiere the controversial #Number12 investigative piece.
The Number12 documentary, being the result of a two-year investigative work by the journalist and his Tiger Eye PI team, confirmed allegations of deep-seated corruption in Ghana’s football in particular.
The exposé revealed how some GFA officials, football administrators, referees, and those in the sports authority, received bribes in various sums to fix matches. It also revealed how they disregard rules and regulations, and ultimately compromised their positions.
Several people wondered about the motivation behind Kennedy Agyapong’s utterances until the investigative piece was premiered on last Wednesday and Thursday. The MP’s name was mentioned in the exposé, eventually.
The former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi mentioned Kennedy Agyapong’s name as being a “loud” person within the New Patriotic Party government. He said, he ought to be given some money in order to win him to their side in a deal he was seeking to strike with some supposed investors.
However, Anas has asked his lawyers to sue Kennedy Agyapong claiming general and aggravated damages, has been defamed by the recent utterances and comments of the MP against him.
In the application, which was filed at the High Court registry on Friday, June 8, 2018, Anas is praying for additional cost against Kennedy Agyapong including his lawyer’s legal fees in the case.
Anas’ lawyers argued that Kennedy Agyapong was “malicious in his publication of the words,” their client, Anas, has complained of.
